film reviews

1) Joy does not watch movies over and over
2) Joy wants to go to bed
3) Joy is not a very interesting writer

But putting all that aside, I will attempt to give you some decent writing for tonight. Happy 10/10/10 by the way. (Brig I did some stalking of your tumblr, and project 42. What is project 42 by the way? I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND)

Happy Campers (2001)
It's one of those movies that you love to love. Happy Campers gets better each time you watch it. Basically it's set at Camp Bleeding Dove where some horny teenage counselors find themselves running the camp full of slightly less horny youngsters when the director is struck by lightning. There are some moments where you think the film is going to turn into a horror movie, but it doesn't, it's just the dark tone of the movie. It's not all about sex either, it really tries to be deep and it's more about reasons and feelings. However it is an acquired taste, so watch it a couple of times and you'll love it, I promise.

Where the Wild Things Are (2009)
Where the Wild Things Are is a masterpiece but maybe hard to understand for some people. It's dark and sombre, and not for kids. But then again many adults will find it pointless. If you are on of those lucky people that can appreciate movies like this, it is actually a deep, meaningful, honest film - and incredibly original. Spike Jonze could have made a kid's cartoon about running around in the forest, but he adds anger, sadness, loneliness, and the whole thing is now wild and raw. The best thing is that you can relate to the characters. Max is trying to figure things out. Carol is lonely and angry. KW finds things complicated. Everyone gets sad. The perfect scenery, soundtrack and acting from Max Records completes the film. It's a haunting movie but definitely should be appreciated.

.... I'll do another one tomorrow
